Edna Again.

When Edna was in Llandrindod yesterday, she heard an almighty row in the Planning Committee. She told me that it was only a little issue, about protocol. But Chairman, Councillor Bob Mills is not a man to mess with. I think Edna fancies him a bit - she likes men of action. Anyway, the application involved locating a portacabin at a school, somewhere near Welshpool - clearly a 'Montgomeryshire' issue. And the protocol is that such an issue should be dealt with when the itinerant Committee is meeting in Montgomeryshire. (It is a Powys Committee, which meets in turn in Monty, Radnorshire and Breconshire.) It seems that officers were not prepared to wait, as every other applicant would have to.

Well, Chairman Mills was having none of it, and after a lot of argy bargy he walked out, not usually an entirely silent process. Edna loved it. "What a man" is what she said. The Deputy Chair then walked out as well - in support. It never does any good though. Powys officers are not used to letting councillors decide things. They just told the remnants of the Committee to elect another Chair, and passed the application anyway. You see, they were dealing with their own application - so protocol is no more than 'guidance'. At least this is what Edna says.

That wasn't the only interesting thing that happened yesterday.

I'm led to believe that Cllr Gary Price was approached prior to yesterdays meeting and asked to speak on behalf of residents for a specific application and that the site for the application was in a neighbouring ward. The neighbouring ward was that of Cllr Davies, another Lib Dem. I was wondering why they would approach Cllr Price and not their own County Councillor, is it possible that the people of the ward realised they could not trust Cllr Davies to represent them, he did not regarding the yellow line in Howey. Maybe the whole of Powys not just Montgomeryshire is waking up to the idea Lib Dems can't be trusted. Just an idea, what do you think?

There's going to be an almighty 'row' in India following the events in Mumbai. Hindu-Muslim tensions can lead to a disaster for India and Muslim-Hindu relations. Doesn't take 'rocket science' to realize that there is now a strong possibility of rioting where hundreds if not thousands of citizens homes and businesses are at risk across India.

I hear Cllr Mills was more concerned over getting his lunch in time than staying to discuss the "Montgomery" planning application, and that was after he held up the start of the meeting because he hadn't had his coffee!!

Jane - Can't answer that. You could be right. Perhaps Gary, who sometimes comments on this blog might tell us! However I do have to add that I had huge respect for some of the former Liberal MPs for Montgomeryshire, whom I knew personally.

Anon - what has happened is terrible, but its wrong to draw any conclusions yet.

Anon 2 - I note that you have chosen to remain anonymous. Perhaps you should raise these points directly with Cllr. Mills. Please let me know when and where you intend to do this. I'd like to watch.

... and I'll supply the pop-corn.

P-man - Can I have the pop corn. I'll have to go into hiding, because the County b*****y Times has reprinted this blog in full in the blog column of this week's edition. I'm not sure I'm up to facing Bob Mills' wrath.

Glyn> this could turn into a 'pay per view' event ... if you have a doppelgänger, now might be a good time to dust him off ... meanwhile, I'm shipping two sacks of pop-corn.
