Evidence Needed

I need help here in gathering evidence. I'm told that my predecessor, Lembit Opik appeared on Sky News this morning (at around 10.25) and suggested that he had been subjected to the same sort of false allegations that were perpetrated by Phil Woolas. I do not know against whom his alleged comments were directed, and I am totally dependent on hearsay. Such allegations (if made at all, and if directed at his Conservative opponent) would not be true, and outrageously untruthful at that. If anyone heard this interview, I would be grateful if you can tell me what he said. You can email me on glyndavies8@btinternet.com. Our election campaign made almost no reference at all to my predecessor. In fact, I was much criticised by some of my supporters for refusing to engage with him. I wanted to focus on running a campaign on our terms, rather than being drawn into his approach to politics. I also conduct myself as an MP in a very different way to my predecessor. He did the job his way, and I do it my way - and the people choose. That's how democracy works.

Lembit Opik unbelievably is still scrabbling around looking for spurious reasons why he lost the election. The poor deluded man has such an ego, he just cannot come to terms with the fact he was ousted by you, because Montgomeryshire had simply had enough of him and his embarrassing antics.

He hasn't a hope in hell of being re-selected as candidate for Montgomeryshire in the future.

Libdems are dead in the water now in my opinion anyway. Why don't they just call themselves Tories and have done with it?

I didnt see it but it wouldnt be surprise if true

He was on Radio 4 the other day trying to make out that he lost his seat because of the big swing to the Tories and comparing his plight to the party losing in Mont in the 80s. As if! As Anon 1 points out, he refuses to accept that he lost the seat becasuse of his massive lifestyle problems and totally embarrassing behaviour. From what I hear, he's a loose canon, even more than he used to be........

The great irony in this is that the Lib Dems are well known as that party that regularly partakes in the sort of nasty tactics we're talking about here.

Word has it that they said some really unpleasant things about you Glyn during the campaign.

So maybe all this did play a part in Opik's downfall after all... just not in the way he's apparently suggesting.

Anons - I wish Lembit nothing but well. Its tough losing as election you expect to win. I know because I've been there. But I just won't have any suggestion that we acted anything but 100%honourably. It seems that no-one has heard what I'd understood had been said anyway.
Our slogan, 'Montgomeryshire Deserves Better' was as negative as we went - and I was uncomfortable with that. I did hear that some rather unpleasant things were said about me, (behind my back of course), but we didn't respond in any way. Instuctions went out from me that it was just not to happen. And it didn't.

So forget about it Glyn. You know, your supporters know, the good people of Montgomeryshire know that there's 'no beef' or stock to 'the story' or innuendo or whatever.

Be very interesting to see the evidence against you or your party if true, it obviously has rattled some people who have posted on here.
If there is truth behind it let's hope that the full weight of the law serves justice. If not let's hope all parties shut up and get on with their respective jobs

Plaid where the 'nasty' party in Montgomeryshire this year, and even that was below par
