What was Kirsty thinking about?

I'm indebted to my Plaid Cymru opponent in Montgomeryshire, Heledd Fychan for her very sharp post today. It really is worth a read. I like to check Heledd's blog on a regular basis - just to see what she's up to. Forewarned is forearmed, as Pam in my office tells me. Anyway, I would not otherwise have known about the press release put out by the leader of the Liberal Democrats in Wales, Kirsty Williams today. It demanded that Labour and Plaid Cymru AMs should lose salary for refusing to cross the picket line tomorrow (Wed.). I suspect that Ms Williams knew exactly what she was doing - and who she was dropping in the mire. And how. Heledd's post is about her and my Lib Dem opponent's 'other interests'.

So many people (including visitors to this blog) have been pressing me to make an issue of these 'other interests' for years. Sometimes I have been so incensed that I've been sorely tempted. Being an MP is not a part-time job. But I've always been wary of being branded 'nasty Tory'. OK, so I have condemned the puerile trash that he writes for the Daily Sport, and I've commented negatively (in passing anyway) about the six day 'freebie' cruise in the Med last November, when all of us thought he was in Westminster representing us. But, in general, I've left it to the media to let people know what's going on. I know. I know. None of it is covered by the widest read local newspaper. Where there might have been a conflagration of outrage, there has been zilch. Until today perhaps. Heledd Fychan has opened fire with both barrels. I'll put the link on again - because you really must read it. But the most intriguing aspect of this is Kirsty Williams' reason for issuing her press release. Was it a deliberate attempt to fire an Exocet into the Montgomeryshire Lib Dem campaign ship?

Well, it's all there in black and white. I doubt the County Times will publish any of it - so why not so in your own literature instead?

Bit of Foot and Mouth there Glyn by Ms Williams
Also she really is comparing apples and pears isnt she
Some people admire the stance that labour and Plaid are taking and I would have thought quite a few of those would have been erstwhile Liberals

At last, someone has picked up on the monstrous amounts of money going into the MP for Hello's pockets. Glyn, you should have been asking these questions, It defies belief that Lembit Opik has got away with earning these amounts, when the average salary here is around 14k. And just clock what he's earned it for. He has a whole load of questions to answer. At last. AT LAST, questions ar being askes=d

How manyt Tory MPs have outsdie interests Glyn? Get your own house in order before you attack others.

(and yes Lab and PC members who went on 'strike' should loose a days wages)

TWENTY GRAND for an article by saddo Opik! I am furious. Do the electorate of Montgomeryshire actually realise that this fool is taking the proverbial out of them? His extra earnings have to be read to be believed.....

Anon (Thu Mar 25, 10:39:00 AM)> Glyn is absolutely correct to raise such issues particularly when the Welsh leader of the Lib-Dems seems to be raising the same issues!

Vote, but Vote Glyn Davies!
Montgomeryshire Deserves Better!

I wonder when he has the time to represent us in parliament - oh, sorry I forgot, he's too busy going off on freebie cruises - including expenses, to be bothering with sitting in the House of Commons!

It's puzzling why the County Times never seems to report anything negative about him. I would have thought it was their duty to do so.

Talking of the CT, if this week's copy has another sleazy front page similar to the previous 2 weeks, I will not buy it again. It's rapidly turning into a cheap tabloid paper - sad. I've been a faithful reader for 30 years, but these so called new changes are retrograde.

Yes funny how the County Times totally ignore Opik's freebie cruises, living off his fiancee whilst claiming rent in London, his louche personasl behaviour, articles for a porno rag called the Sport etc etc, whilst yesterday's Guardian actually highlights Montgomeryshire as a seat to watch in Wales. You would never have hought that was the case if the County Times was your paper of choice. I think a petition ought to be started, protesting about the way the paper is deliberately deceiving the good folk of Mont

I guess there's a danger for a candidate to attack the local press; not going to win many journalistic friends. These wars are best done by proxy.
