£1,000 per plate!!

Blimey. I've eaten at some expensive restaurants in my time, but nothing remotely like this. £1,000 per plate. Wow. I suppose the Labour Party in Wales are now the "toffs with the cash to splash". Peter Hain and Carwyn Jones' new campaign slogan should be 'Labour Deserves Better' or 'Labour Deserves Wagyu'. It wouldn't be so bad if Peter Hain and his Cabinet colleagues hadn't been flooding the airwaves for months talking about 'Tory toffs'. Don't suppose we'll hear much about that particular line for a day or two!! I wonder whether all these 'modern day champagne socialists' will be wearing any special dress for the occasion. Or will they be donning Welsh rugby kit. I hope that the BBC and Martin Shipman get hold of the guest list. If anyone has a copy, please 'leak' it to me. Maybe Edna Mopbucket will manage to get her fingers on it. In the interests of transparency we should be given the names of these gastro-gods.

Bit sorry to see the Welsh Rugby Union being politicised though. A few years ago, I remember Peter Hain and Rhodri Morgan persuading Mike Ruddock to walk onto a Labour Platform at election time. At the time, I thought it was tragic to see a great rugby coach being treated like a performing chicken. I still like Mike Ruddock, and always keep on eye on how Worcester are doing. And David Pickering is a good guy as well. In fairness to David, he recognised very quickly that he'd made a mistake and apologised. Lets forget it was my instictive response as well. But Oh No - not Welsh Labour. They multiply David Pickering's embarrassment by publicly justifying the use of WRU facilities for Labour's promotional activities. Some people are just devoid of judgement. I suggest 'Pig's Ear' and 'Humble Pie' on the menu. Anyone got any better suggestions.

Pickering's Labourism isn't new, mun. He or his company funded Labour MEP Derek Vaughan's party nomination campaign, to the tune of £1,000, I believe. It's been on the Electoral Commission web-site for months. Where have the so-called journalists been? Didn't Ruddock get an OBE or something? Wonder who nominated him (not).

And the WRU has been run like a Labour council for years. Get wise, butty.

It didn't take Carwyn Jones long to start his legacy of 'errors of judgement'.

He's only been in the job for around 'five minutes' and already has shown himself to be willing to use any questionable means to finance Labour, including the Welsh Rugby Union.

He was obviously aware of the WRU's apparent involvement from the outset and yet saw nothing wrong in the use of the WRU's messaging system.

As far as David Pickering is concerned, it appears that he is guilty of the theft of the electricity used to power the production of these emails as he now claims that this dinner was organised in a 'purely personal capacity'. His own words condemn him:

"In a statement to BBC Wales, Mr Pickering said the fundraising dinner had been organised by him "in a purely personal capacity".

'Proper compliance'

He said: "This event is not associated with the Welsh Rugby Union in any way shape or form. In light of that, I accept it was wrong to use the Welsh Rugby Union e-mail address."

This incident clearly shows Pickering's cavalier attitude to the use of property and facilities belonging to his employers in order to facilitate his 'personal' interests.

Labour was quick to cite Lord Ashcroft, as if two wrongs made a right.

On a non-political matter, do you see smokies being served up at fund-raisers? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/8481983.stm refers.

Can I add a little more, please? You wrote, "In fairness to David, he recognised very quickly that he'd made a mistake and apologised". But today's Llais y Sais reports Nick Bourne, "it's sent from a WRU address and it has WRU fax and telephone numbers on it and the address of Mr Pickering's PA and the RSVP was to a WRU e-mail address". Ye, Gods! Pickering 'owning up' (when caught: so Labour) to using his employer's e-mail only is a bit underwhelming, I think. This has the hallmarks of an organised, deliberate move. His office seems inured to Labour. Perhaps his WRU bosses should check his other work e-mails to see if there are more? Wouldn't any employer have the right to be suspicious on this evidence so far?

"Blimey ... £1,000 per plate"

News report that the meat on some of those plates came from a road-kill - a vehicle on the highway hit the animal - experts said internal injuries could have led to contamination between the rumen and the animal's blood and hence the body proper if the animal's heart did not stop beating upon impact. Spoof or true?

In other news...
