What a difference a 'C' makes

Had a campaign meeting this morning. Someone suggested that I make an issue of the poor upkeep of Council direction signs and the tardy way in which graffiti is removed. A good example is the defacing of the sign that leads into Canal Road in Newtown. It seems that someone has painted out the 'C'. It might even have been Lower Canal Road.

Or perhaps they hired the same humorist responsible for this sign...

I had a similar experience in Scotland once. Some wag had removed both initial letters in 'Canal Street'. I felt guilty for chuckling.

Think yourself lucky laddies, when I was but a wee nip, the village council agreed to keep all the street signs invisible! More to the point, it was regarded as heresy to have street signage around the village. When the misses and me moved to this wee village, we thought it was 'quaint', so did the local cops and ambulance service that would spend many a ‘happy hour’ trying to locate a house. I'd have you know that people here were born, lived a fair life, and died of old age before the ambulance arrived. The village? How do I know, it didn't have a sign. The planet? No signage.
