As Predicted by this Blog

Months ago a local bigwig in Montgomeryshire Plaid Cymru informed me that their Parliamentary Candidate for the next General Election had been selected, but not confirmed. He said that the name of this selected person was to be kept an absolute secret. So I guessed, and came up with two names - Sian Lloyd and Heledd Fychan. To be honest, I didn't really think it was Sian, but the suggestion made a nice talking point. Anyway its finally official that I was right. Heledd Fychan it is. I like the line in the official Plaid press release (which is weeks after we all knew) that Montgomeryshire is 'a magical place'. That's one of my lines.

I didn't think Sian Lloyd was a Plaid Cymru supporter. Am I wrong?
Shame it's not her because it would have made for a fantastic fight in Montgomeryshire. The way the current MP treated her is still a sore point amongst the people here

I asked about it when I saw your original blog entry, Glyn. It certainly wasn't presented to me as "an absolute secret" ... but I guess that's because I'm not a Tory.

Anyway, now you know for sure. In a way I'm sad, because you're definitely in the "decent Tory" bracket, and much better than Lembit. But even a half-decent Plaid candidate will run rings around you both ... and Heledd is more than that.

If you win, it will be more because of the general swing to the Tories than anything else. It's not really a Plaid target for the Westminster election, more a question of building up a body of support for 2011.

Hardly a revelation on your part - there was an article in the County Times weeks ago, quoting Heledd Fychan.

I liked the bit in the press release where all non Plaid politicians in Wales were described as "slaves to their London bosses". Looks like Plaid have selected another from the La Passionara school of politics again. Having said that I'm afraid Glyn there is no contest in the looker stakes when it comes to the candidates in Montgomery. The girl wins hands down.

Anon - I have no idea what Sian's political affiliation is - and I only suggested her name to stir things up a bit. But I agree that she would have spiced up the eelection no end.

MH - I haven't noticed Heledd running rings around our MP - more going straight for the jugular I'd say!

Penbedw - Its only now that the official announcement has been made. Don't ask me why it was so delayed. And my prediction predated the article in the County Times by several weeks.

Stuart - Regretably, I have to accept your judgement here - and I hope that this acceptance is not seen as some heinous PC crime.

Can't we repeal the Great Reform Act and give Montgomeryshire three MPs? ;-)

Whoever wins the seat has got to better than the current self-promoting clown of an MP which make Montgomeryshire a laughing stock. How's this for a catchy title for the election Glyn, 'GLYN 2 WIN' - borrowed from the one and only Glyn Wise in Big Brother.

It might not be a Plaid target, but Heledd's presence will make this a very interesting political battle. It might actually help you, Glyn. A fairly large numbver of people who have voted for Lembit Opik in the past, will not be able to bring themselves to do so ever again, for obvious reasons. Some of those will turn to Heledd, some to Labour and a fair few to your good self. Others will abstain from voting altogether. Given the Tory swing in the GE, you could well get there and pip this disgraced MP at the post. Btw, it wouldn't harm you to be as voiciferous as Heledd when it comes to pointing out his unacceptable behaviour. Or is your methodology to get her to do the dirty work on your behalf?! Could well work for you!!

James. - Great idea. Well two anyway.

B G - We did think about it at the time, but its too obvious a copy - and a bit celebrity associated, and we have enough of that.

Anon - My approach has been a discussion point in our ofice. Personal criticism of my opponents, no matter how justified is just not me. I was very aggressive when I was young, but I've tried to train myself. I do let fly sometimes, as I did when I was an AM, but I prefer it to be to the recipient's face. I daresay I'm in for some OF the feisty Heledd's stick myself.

How about these ideas just off the top of my head as election titles 'Lembit has failed, utterly' or 'Pull the plug on Lembit.'

Or Out with Opik, Let's lose Lembit, Get rid of Grope-it, Glyn to win

Well Glyn - news from the Plaid front - all members had a message from the Leader today - explaining at great length the about face on font up fees! A clasic that even friend JJ of Bridgend would have found hard to beat?

Perhaps you should ask your new PC PPC where she stands? With big mate Bethan Jenkins or Ieuan Wyn?

Be lunbered with Lembit or go for gold with Glyn
Of any use?
