I read in todays Telegraph that s**t in now an accepted word in the House of Commons. Well, it is not an accepted word on this blog. The Speaker has ruled that s**t is an ok word to describe excrement in the debating chamber, but not to describe another MP. In my view there is an arguement for it being the other way around. Excrement is a perfectly adaquate word to use in the one instance - while I can see difficulty in hitting on a better word to describe some of the Hon. Members. There will now have to be rulings on whether the word can be used to describe what an MP has said - or whether it will be acceptable for an MP to say "I have been for a s**t".
And what about the Assembly. What will Dafydd El say if someone tries out this word next week. I'm sure that pusher of parliamentary boundaries, Mick Bates is itching to test the matter. He did say s**te a few weeks ago, but it was a slip of the tongue. And will the Llywydd agree with his Deputy, John Marek. Will they be find a suitable occassion to discuss it. Despite my 'libertarian' instincts, I do not want to hear the word s**t. The Speaker should reconsider his flawed ruling.

Get your facts right before you spout off - it was the Deputy Speaker (a she) not the Speaker.
And who gives a toss what you think anyway? You're not an MP and, thankfully, are unlikely ever to become one.
If someone swore in Welsh in the chamber, would the simultaneous translation provide an adequate English alternative? Or have they installed a big red bleep button since politicians started all this swearing malarkey.
Apparently this is allowed too:

lon152 - why dont you get some manners? - if you dont give a toss about what the blogger thinks why the hell are you reading his blog.
Grow up
Ion152 should realise that Glyn Davies would have made a first rate MP. As a member of the Labour party I might disagree with his politics but he has shown over the past 8 years that he is a first class AM. His blog provides a real honest insight into the views of one of the more interesting politicians in Wales at the moment. A Tory who is prepared to think outside the box and really develop new ideas for a post devolution Wales from a right of centre perspective. Keep it up Glyn. I personally hope that you are around for years to come.
I'm floored. Just as Plaid Cymru have no idea what to do with Tories who are reasonable in debate (usually anyway) and deeply committed to making devolution a success - so I am gobsmacked by comments which are as kind as those of Mat and Labour anon. I am more used to Ion152 - though not quite so colourful.
And chanticleer, I remember the translation service once informing us in Committee that the Welsh-speaking Chief Executive of the Wales Tourist Board had said "In Wales, it is usually p**sing down". It seems that the Welsh word for 'raining heavily' is 'pistyllio'.
Yes, saying "pistyllio" in school always made us think we were being granted leave to be secretly obscene.
